Student Publications

“You can’t use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have.”

— Maya Angelou

Some of my proudest teaching moments happened outside the classroom, watching students take an idea from a lunchtime pitch to a published page. From 2020 to 2025, I served as faculty advisor to The Evergreen, a student-run literary magazine. My students handled it all — writing, editing, curating art, and building the digital edition you can still read today.

Advising a publication taught me as much as any course I’ve led: young writers thrive when the audience is real. If your school is thinking about starting a literary magazine, reach out — I’m happy to share what worked (and what didn’t).
