Welcome Note:
Happy New Year Activists,
I am overjoyed to welcome you back to OneSchoolhouse for your spring semester Activism seminar. I hope that your winter break was filled with spontaneous adventures, excursions into the outdoors, special moments with family and friends, and, of course, transformative books.
One of your first assignments asks you to introduce yourself to our virtual community, so I won’t pen a lengthy introduction in this space. Here’s what you should know now: I am an avid reader and writer, a watcher of the world; someone who is paying close attention to what is happening around us at this pivotal moment in history. No matter why you’re here, I’m happy you are. I look forward to learning from you and with you because together we can create lasting change. Because of the nature of this course, I can (and will) update certain lessons to reference the world’s current events. I encourage you to do the same. Remember that we do not live in a vacuum– a change in the United States has world-wide impacts. You will have the ability to share links, post pictures, upload audio clips, and the like. Be intentional and always aim to be kind.
Before you click into our course, please take a moment to remind yourself that you are allowed to bring your whole self to class. Perfection is an unattainable goal and I hope to get to know each of you through your discussion board posts and community comments. Whether you are logging on from school, from an airport, from home during a snow day, or from your favorite coffee shop, I hope you feel welcomed and your comments appreciated this semester.
As in previous semesters, your support team will look the same. The Student Success Team at One Schoolhouse will work directly with your on-campus coordinator to help you be your most successful self. I will be available to answer any course-related questions and am looking forward to having in-depth discussions about issues you care deeply about.
Should you have any questions at any time, please message me through the inbox system in Canvas.
I look forward to getting to know each of you this semester.
See you online,
Mrs. Didi Conti (she/her)
